Transponder scoring will be used for the Battle of Atlanta at Social Circle 8 Hour Team Race.

Transponders are 4.75 inches long and 2.75 inches in Circumference .

A transponder is a small cylinder device, about the shape of a cigar used for score keeping.  Often attached to a chest protector or taped to the front fender.   Those familiar with transponders can skip to the next paragraph.  For others  don’t worry if this is new to you, we will have transponders to rent or purchase at sign up.  Cost is $30 to purchase or rent for $7 (plus deposit).  Transponders can be reused and reprogrammed for years.  The one above is over 5 years old.  Only one transponder allowed per team.  Once you have your transponder our scorekeepers will program the device  with your team information.  Each time you pass through scoring the transponder relays you
r information to our computers.  You will see a display in the scoring tent that will show your team number, class, position and how far behind you are from the next team in your class.  It will not show how far behind the leader of you your class.   For example  you may see  16 Open C, 4th  behind 2:55.  That means you are team 16 in the Open C class, you are in 4th place and 2 minutes and 55 second behind 3rd place.

Everyone Please Read!   Most are familiar with transponders, but for this race the  transponder must  be transferred from bike to bike.   Only one transponder per team- strictly enforced.  Come prepared with zip ties, pouches or other homemade carriers that will allow for the quickest transfer possible.   Some suggests are making a holder out of PVC pipe, mini flashlight pouches, zip ties or even sharing the same chest protector (a common place to mount them).  Be creative, but make sure the transponder does not touch metal- keep a couple inches away just to be sure.  Make sure your transponder is secure and that it’s transferred during each rider exchange.  Laps ridden without a transponder will not be counted.  It is your responsibility to transfer the device.

Make sure to test your transponder before the race and double check the information during the race.  Don’t wait until the end of the race to report your were scored in the wrong class.
